Alone at night on bended knee
I asked the Lord for something
That I was certain I must need
But he said no.
And as I walked along today
This prayer that I tend to pray
Replayed itself as hopes I weigh
But he said no.
And as I sleep and dream most yearning
Of wishes granted and passions burning
My prayer comes back, my need returning
But he says no.
So this thought I ponder with slight regret
That the sun soon rise and make me forget
...Perhaps God's 'no' just means 'not yet'...
And I hope so.
